Originally opened in 1987 as the Nugget Point Hotel, this celebrated Queenstown property established a reputation as one of New Zealand’s finest luxury lodges. Its interiors, originally designed by renowned New Zealand designer Virginia Fisher, created a strong sense of nostalgia and enduring character.

GCA Studio led the refurbishment and regeneration, carefully restoring the hotel while elevating its position as a five-star alpine retreat. The redevelopment enhanced the existing accommodation and amenities and introduced a distinctive destination spa and wellness facility, extending the property’s offering and connection to its dramatic setting above the Shotover River.

The multimillion-dollar transformation was recognised with the Hotel of the Year – Refurbishment award at the 2026 Australasia Pacific HM Hotel Design Awards.
